Same issue. I haven't touched my thermostat nor its wiring and I'm getting the E74 error message. No idea why . . .I only have a furnace connected, not A/C.R can be thought of as the "hot" wire while W acts as the "neutral" wire when the thermostat is calling for heat. Since it's just two wires completing a simple circuit, most thermostat don't care which terminals the "hot" and "neutral" wires are going to. Jan 21, 2023 · Again. Same problem. Correction. I have 3rd generation, not 2nd Re-insert the wires in case they are not properly inserted. Push the wire as far as it will go by pressing down the connector button. If the connector button remains in its position when you let it go, this means that the wire has been properly inserted.
