Because the people making the show found him hot and wrote him onto the show. Aki was written for Evan Mock. It's nice change of pace to have a relaxing kind character like him to balance out all the other characters crazy and sometimes obnoxious behaviors and personalities.The fact that Dan was gossip girl during this makes it truly horrifying, especially bc he was “there for Blair” after she lost her baby and was completely emotionally vulnerable. I was rewatching this scene and it feels almost chilling, especially bc they seem to hint that dan has an ulterior motive when he “helps them.”

I can't really go into a deep analysis of the show because I'll end up giving away a major spoiler to you (the identity of Gossip Girl).
