Dex allows for great melee options! Personally I would NEVER go pure magic since I find pure magic boring. I think going dex/int provides more options and allows for a more (in my opinion) fun playstyle. Cast speed, and increased weapon options. I ran Arc/Faith with as much dex as I could get for a long time. You'll have decent melee dmg plus bleed, dragon breath spells, buffs, lightning spells, holy, blood magic, bestial, etc. It's a fun build with lots of choices.
