I just sold 2 260/6 getrags for the m20. They were off the 1990 525i. The 260/5 and the 260/6 were built for both the m30 and the m20 with the e28 and I am assuming that the 260/6 was used with both the m20 and the m30 in the e34.

The 260/5 (528e other than '82, 533/633) is the weakest of the transmissions (tho still good for 200k miles) and the 260/6 is supposedly much improved over the 260/5.
