S90V could be called a super steel (at least thats what I call it) while S30V is a great steel and better for ease of sharpening, you will however have to sharpen it more and it wont take as good of an edge as S90V. Nov 28, 2015. #3. 420hc is a fine steel, S30v is "better". I use regularly a Buck Woodsman and a Buck folder (285 i think) in 420hc. They are great but don't hold an edge like S30v or other "super" steels. 420hc is a great affordable steel but you need to touch them up often if you want a razor sharp blade.I believe S90V was intended to offer wear resistance over S30V, S60V siblings, and S110V. S110V contains niobium and cobalt that adds to minimizing carbide grain and increased toughness.
