Definition. Community-based participatory research (CBPR) is a research approach where individuals or groups are involved in research in their own community in a partnership with researchers (Israel et al. 1998; Israel et al. 2019; Katsui and Koistinen 2008; Winter and Munn-Giddings 2001 ).
