I googled a lot looking for guidance and mostly just found forums on here and SDN where people gave a pretty wide range of suggestions. Also the trend in derm is that people are ONLY matching places with ties. As mentioned above, the only way to get a tie that isn't family/partner/hometown is to do an away. If you do have family or a partner in an area of the country then you can mention that at the end of your personal statement.
