As far as Western, its taller,has two shock absorbers, seems more reinforced and easier to hook up IMO. The motor does not run on down, the valve just opens and the weight of the unit forces fluid through the valve in the manifold. Push plates 7161 and 7169 will fit 2500s from 99-2007 (or whenever the next generation ends I believe). 7161 (from 99-02) are a bit shorter as the bumper in 03 was changed (to be made bigger). The 7169 plates are a little longer to clear the newer style bumper.

Fisher is a decent plow but I believe it is a little overkill on a half ton truck, as Fisher is a heavier duty commercial grade for Western. The snow dogg is also a good plow and growing in popularity. Cant really comment on the Boss plows as I really havent looked at them closely.
