By the time a PMHNP student is ready to start clinicals, they have completed didactic courses and should have some clue as to what their clinical rotation goals are. The poor quality of many NP students is why it is increasingly difficult to find NP student preceptors.They are fairly new to PMHNP (2015 or 2016) and I am unable to find anyone that has or is attending the program. I have heard EKU is extremely picky about clinical hours where you might be there for 8 hours yet can only count 1/2 hour with each patient regardless if you spend an hour with one. I am a PMHNP working outpatient right now. Since covid, most of my visits are telehealth. I am looking into platforms like Get Cerebral and/or TalkSpace that hire NP as 1099 employees. They apparently pay $90-100 per visit (depending on med check or evaluation) and ask providers to have at least 20 hours of availability each week.This is in comparison to shift-work NPs (often hospital-based like ED, ICU) who hand off their patients after work. They might be scheduled for 3 12s (36 hrs) or 4 10s (40 hrs), and once they hand off their patients, they can go. Granted, they may also have to take call in case somebody in the practice gets sick.
