Me and a friend are currently doing a Qing-Japan co-op run. It's been pretty fun so far. I spawned in the renaissance by developing a province in Japan and later got the colonialism institution by colonizing Alaska so Qing is at the same tech level as Europeans because of his -10% tech cost in ideas. We also managed to get global trade in Beijing.Tokugawa formed Japan IRL, if you're looking to emulate history. They're not terribly powerful or notable. Oda I got close but Ashikaga started annexing, I took the Shogunat (they would even annex my allies mid-war somehow), but then lost my mercenaries when I DOW'd to annex them later and they started beating me.Once you form Japan, the game becomes much slower, and much more like a regular game of EU4, and that lightning quick gameplay of the Sengoku Jidai slows down and becomes less interesting.
