Factorio smelting setup
Here is my iron smelting setup. There are 2 rows of steel furnaces and all the belts are red belts. I have the iron ore entering the loop from the right side. My problem is that the iron ore isn't going very far but at the same time the produced iron plates aren't nearly saturating enough (as you can see in the upper left corner).1 / 1 ratio is ok, but remember that after some time you will probably start bringing ore to smelt in trains and it will make maintaining this ratio rather hard (if not impossible). Once trains are running check whether your smelters are capable of processing all the ore before the next train arrives - if not, add more (or use speed modules). 4.Features. As the mining productivity soars, onsite wins again because every patch now produces enough ore to justify a very large smelting setup.
You could probably handle the input into the smelter with a division combinator to avoid problems if the stack size is less than the amount of raw materials. Output the smart chest signal to a division combinator, divide by the number of raw materials required, then output signal to the smart inserter.
