To solve this, we put in 4 stabilizing pistons that extend to almost touch the 4 sides of the drill shaft. These pistons are actuated when moving the rig and at the start of the drilling operation to prevent the drill from hitting the rover itself. The drill works great! Only complaint is too much stone.
