Mine happened at 37k miles, took it in. Dealership kept it for a day and said that it did have the head issue and replaced the head.A few details. - 160k miles. - Idles around 800rpm. - About 10.5mpg (4:10s, 33's, Dana 44 rear) Not sure if this helps much but what the heck. - Replaced Coil. - Replaced spark plugs with some that Jerry recommended on these forums-- Gapped correctly. - Replaced Fuel injector on cylinder 2. - CEL goes away along with misfire while running ...Sep 9, 2017 · 50679 posts · Joined 2005. #4 · Sep 10, 2017 (Edited) Since the misfire is just on the #3 cylinder, you don't need a new coil which on your '99 provides spark for all six cylinders. It's likely either from heat soak in the #3 fuel injector, a bad spark plug, a bad #3 ignition wire, or less likely a bad upstream O2 sensor.It could also be a bad head gasket. Two basic things that should have been done based on your symptoms: 1. In addition to the compression test that was done, I would have done a cylinder leak down test. 2. I would also pressure test the cooling system to see where the coolant is going. You should be under warranty.Cylinder three misfire. 2003 TJ 4.0 190k. Had been running fine. There is a TSB and a warranty extension dealing with the left head oj JKs built on or before July 25, 2012. If you are still under warranty, they should not balk at replacing it for you.
