Of course, he built motors for several in the Can-Am series as well. Once I was out in the shop messing around and found that a '73-'76 302 tall-deck block used with late-model pistons (which usually have a slightly shorter compression height) and 289 rods left me with the piston popped out .005" or thereabouts.It has a 70 lb aluminum block full of 460 Ford pistons and rods. With a $500.00 aluminum 460 Ford performance head, the 4 barrel manifold and a QuadraJet carb it puts out about 224 Big Torque HP. That's 1 hp per cubic inch. It has a Chevy bellhousing pattern and weighs about 300lbs dressed out.And interesting enough, there are combinations of the two. Internal balance, for the harmonic balancer, external balance for the flywheel flex plate such as 87-95 SBC including LT1 and LT4 Opti-Spark engines. And if your thinking going automatic, you'd be much better of with more cubes, 350+, and those motors are cheaper, and less costly to built.The oil pan should show a line of spot welds on the sides running front to back horizontaly above the sump. The harmonic damper (balancer) is the 8" dia thick ring. The timing cover has a welded on tab very close to the damper.
