That has happened to me with a tax refund check and I was freaking out. I called USPS and they told me informed delivery tries to send images for same day mail as often as possible but it’s not guaranteed and it can typically show images for mail the local office hasn’t yet processed for delivery and to give it at least 3 days before doing a trace on it.

I believe USPS doesn't consider an item lost until 30 days. Granted that timeframe is re: tracking, which you don't have with a stamped item, but I'd say the concept would still apply.
